VW says no to merger talks with Fiat Chrysler
The Volkswagen Group is not interested in merger talks with its US/Italian competitor Fiat Chrysler, its CEO has said.
“We have other problems”, said Matthias Müller (pictured) on Wednesday at the Geneva Motor Show, in response to an opening move by Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of the Fiat Chrysler group.
Also at Geneva, Marchionne had said on Tuesday that the Volkswagen Group could be an attractive prospective partner, and that he might be interested in talks to bring both manufacturers closer to each other.
That suggestion followed hot on the heels of the news that the PSA Group had agreed to acquire Opel/Vauxhall from General Motors.
But Volkswagen is not interested in joining forces with Fiat Chrysler: "We are not ready for talks about anything. I haven't even seen Marchionne for months", Müller told Reuters in Geneva.
