VW Group opens multibrand plant in Algeria

Volkswagen Group and local partner Sovac S.P.A. have inaugurated a multibrand automotive plant in Algeria. Sovac Production S.P.A. is located in Relizane, about 250 km southwest of the capital Algiers.

The plant has four assembly lines and will produce up to 200 vehicles daily. The initial model lineup consists of the VW Golf, VW Caddy, SEAT Ibiza and Skoda Octavia. From 2018, the VW Polo and Skoda Fabia will be added to the local production portfolio.

The plant currently employs around 550, a figure which is to rise to 1,800 in the long run; with more jobs created with local suppliers and logistics service producers.

The Volkswagen Group holds a minority stake in the Relizane plant, with Sovac the main investor. Sovac has been the distribution partner of VW in Algeria since 2001. Its dealership network includes about 90 locations, with more than 1,600 employees. In 2015, Sovac handed over more than 30,000 VW Group vehicles to customers in Algeria.
