Volvo Cars global sales up 5.7% in February

Global sales for Volvo Cars were up 5.7% from 34,552 units last year to 36,515 units last month. Combined sales growth over the first two months of 2017 was 5.4%, putting the Swedish premium automaker on course for another record year.

The sales increase was driven by strong demand for the new 90 series. Best-selling model remains the XC60 (pictured), the new version of which will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next week.

Sales in the EMEA region increased by 5.1% to 21,892 units, thanks to solid sales in key European markets for Volvo: Sweden, the UK and Italy. Volvo sold 5,625 cars in the Americas in February, of which 4,651 in the U.S.

Volvo's strongest growth was reported in Asia/Pacific, up 19.4% to 8,724 units. This was due in no small part to China, Volvo's biggest market globally, with sales rising by 20.8% to 5,878 units, thanks to strong demand for the locally-produced XC60 and S60L models as well as the XC90 and S90.
