New Zealand remains car-hungry
April was yet again a month of robust growth, with a total of 10,635 new vehicles registered. Year to date, the New Zealand market has increased by 13 percent compared to last year, performing above expectations. However, according to the Motor Industry Association, even more vehicles could have taken to New Zealand roads if it weren’t for some distributors’ supply constraints.
With a 17 percent market share, Toyota remains the overall leader, followed by Ford with 12 percent and Holden with 8 percent. The top selling models in April were the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Holden Colorado, Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage, clearly indicating the New Zealanders’ preference for pick-up trucks and SUVs.
