New Zealand adopts European fast-charge plug standard

Chargenet NZ, the New Zealand electric vehicle charging network operator, is changing its DC fast-charging plug from Type 1 CCS to Type 2 CCS.
The change to the European Type 2 CCS (Combined Charging System) plug will give a wider variety of vehicles access to the rapid chargers. It also ensures compatibility with the most modern technology from Europe, future-proofing New Zealand's electric highway.
Chargenet NZ and BMW Group NZ agreed in 2016 to install over 100 DC rapid chargers across the country. The changeover started in the South Island last month, and is continuing in the North Island from this month.
