Fuel reduction priority for 75% of Australian fleets
Fuel reduction is the number one priority for 75% of Australian companies that run fleets, a survey by Fleetmatics shows.
Fleetmatics, a global provider of mobile workforce solutions for service-based businesses delivered as software-as-a-service, surveyed the key challenges facing Australian fleets of 5 to 50 vehicles. Some key results:
→ 75% say reducing fuel and labour costs is a key business priority.
→ 74% say rising fuel costs in Australia are a significant concern.
→ 73% say personal use of company vehicles wastes fuel and increases fuel cost.
Overall, fuel and labour are the largest expenses for 69% of businesses in the transport, construction, services and distribution industries. No less than 80% of fleet businesses in the distribution, construction, retail and hospitality industries say staff using company vehicles for personal travel and unnecessary idling are the biggest culprits diminishing their fleets’ productivity.
According to Fleetmatics, these figures underline the importance of ensuring that vehicles are being used as efficiently as possible. One answer would be to adopt mobile workforce software, of the kind offered by Fleetmatics. While not a magical solution, it helps reduce wasteful driver behaviour.
No more than 47% of businesses using the software experience the challenge of staff idling vehicles unnecessarily, compaed to 59% of those who haven’t adopted the technology.
