Dutch build largest driverless fleet in Dubai

Tech company 2getthere has been awarded a major new mobility contract in Dubai. The Dutch sustainable mobility solutions developer will build a driverless vehicle system that will link Dubai’s metro system to Bluewaters, an upcoming lifestyle destination off the city's coast.

The transport system will transport up to 5,000 passengers an hour between Dubai Metro and Bluewaters Island, which will make it the largest system of its kind in the world. The system will also complement Dubai's target to complete 25% of all trips by automated transport by 2035, reported on earlier here

Bluewaters Island is a waterfront project just off Jumeirah Beach Residence. The island, currently being developed, will feature Ain Dubai, set to become the world's tallest and largest observation wheel, surpassing both the New York Wheel in Staten Island and the High Roller in Las Vegas.

Ain Dubai – Arabic for Eye of Dubai – will be able to accommodate up to 1,400 people in 48 capsules, offering wide views of the surrounding area. The attraction will be surrounded by an entertainment zone.

Carel van Helsdingen, CEO of 2getthere, said his automated transport system will be appealing enough to be an added attraction, drawing in visitors to Bluewaters.
