Didi and Careem in strategic partnership
Didi Chuxing, China's dominant mobile transportation platform, has agreed to a strategic partnership with Careem, the main ride-hailing and internet platform in the Middle East and North Africa.
As part of the deal, Didi made an investment in Careem in order to strengthen its market leadership and enhance its offerings throughout the region. The two companies will share knowledge on technology, product development and operations.
Careem, founded in Dubai in 2012, provides transportation for more than 12 million customers, supporting a wide range of languages (from French and English over Turkish and Arabic to Urdu) and a variety of mobility services.
There are currently over 250,000 drivers on its platform in more than 80 cities across 13 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, including Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine.
"The partnership with Didi will enable Careem to more effectively pursue growth through innovation and sustainability", said Mudassir Sheikha (pictured), CEO and co-founder of Careem.
Didi's global framework of collaboration now extends to over 60% of the world's population across 1,000 cities in North America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America.
