Brazil market celebrates first monthly recovery
Last month, 189,149 new cars, LCVs and trucks were registered in Brazil – 5.5% more than in March 2016. That return to growth signals hope for the country's long-suffering automobile market after a long period of monthly declines.
GM remains the biggest manufacturer on the Brazilian market, having registered 27,484 units last month, versus 24,751 in March 2016. FiatChrysler registered 21,293 units, up from 20,234 last year. VW registered 19,216 units, 4.5% more than in the same month last year. Renault gained 2.2% to 11,292 units, PSA declined by 13% to 3,966 units.
However, over the full first quarter, the Brazilian market still registered 1% less vehicles than in the same period last year: 460,581 new vehicles, compared with 465,485 last year.
But car sales increased 6.2% to 184,188 units, while LCV sales increased 7.1% to 156,934 units.
